Kwara Gov welcomes ex-guber candidate, supporters to APC

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has welcomed a former governorship candidate of the Alternative Party of Nigeria (APN) Amb. Mohammed Abubakar Mohammed to the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state, saying the party’s impactful achievements in the last two years have continued to attract new members and bolster public confidence in the administration.

“I am elated at the news that our party has just received the former governorship candidate and thousands of his supporters to APC in Edu. It is indeed a cheery news and a tonic for us to continue to serve the people and spread development to every part of Kwara State. Our focus is to commit public funds to serve only the interest of the public in line with the spirit of Otoge. I am encouraged by the unceasing testimonials from ordinary people and patriotic stakeholders that we have indeed changed the stories of our state for good across every sector: education, healthcare, poverty alleviation, youths and women empowerment and inclusion, road infrastructure, water, among others,” the Governor said in a statement welcoming the new entrants into the APC fold in Kwara State.

“We are also proud of the fact that, for the first time in decades, the execution of government programmes and projects is blind to political affiliation while our loyalty is 100% to the people of Kwara State. We will not be distracted from this path of honour.

“I congratulate the leadership of our party in Edu local government and across the state on our successes which have continued to attract new members. I also commend our team, including appointees, party stalwarts and civil servants, for the laudable execution of our programmes and the support we enjoy with the people. While there is no doubt about the long journey ahead in meeting various sustainable development goals 2030, we are super proud of our glaringly impactful achievements within the limits of our resources and realities. This has been made possible by the focus, prudence and sacrifices of our team.”

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has congratulated the Emir of Kano Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero on his official coronation, describing the monarch as a bridge-builder and beseeching God to grant him long and peaceful reign on the throne.

“His Royal Highness has strong roots and firm network across the length and breadth of Nigeria, and this has reflected in his carriage and relationships since his assumption of the royal stool a year ago. His recent visit to Ilorin, the birthplace of his mother, served to strengthen the familial ties of love, unity, and commerce that dated centuries between the peoples of Kano and Kwara State. The prevailing peace and tranquillity in Kano since his assumption of office are a pointer to the qualities of His Royal Highness,” according to a statement by the Governor.

“On behalf of the people and government of our state, I convey our best wishes to His Royal Highness, the people and government of Kano State on this historic event. We also pray the Almighty Allah to grant him long, peaceful, and successful reign on the throne of his forefathers.”

Bolarinwa’s comments on Kwara campaign fund ‘false’: Wambai

Bolarinwa’s comments on Kwara campaign fund ‘false’: Wambai

The national headquarters of the APC did not give then governorship candidate AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq N1bn to run his campaign, former APC vice chairman for north central Suleiman Wambai clarified on Wednesday.

Speaking on the recent controversy around campaign funds in Kwara State during the 2019 ballot, Wambai said the funds the party sent to Kwara and other states was for election logistics such as payment for polling agents, supervisors, and canvassers.

“And that particular money came with a specific template of distribution and various stakeholders, including national officers, were involved in its disbursement. The candidate, like his colleagues in other states, took delivery of the said funds but that was all. Its disbursement followed a template that the party had earlier approved. As the chairman of the party in the north central I was to be there, but I couldn’t possibly be in all the North Central states at the same time. In any case, we had a national officer of the party, the National Publicity Secretary who is from Kwara State. We did not have any complaints from Kwara or any other state that the said fund was mismanaged. It was used for the purpose it was meant for,” Wambai told reporters in Abuja.

He said the allegation by the former state chairman of the party Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa that the Governor did not disclose the fund sent to him was “definitely false because the disbursement was transparently done, otherwise, where did the money paid to our party agents, supervisors, canvassers came from? The reports from Kwara and elsewhere showed that all the polling agents and others that were meant to be paid were duly paid as designed.”

Wambai clarified that Kwara did not get up to one billion naira and whatever that came was disbursed in accordance with the template from the national headquarters of the party.

“This matter can only generate controversy out of ignorance. If they were aware of the restrictions the electoral laws impose on campaign fund donations, they wouldn’t be saying that,” he added.

“All (governorship) candidates were made the leaders in their respective state to coordinate and lead the campaigns. They ran their own campaign mostly with their own funds. The money we sent was to cover logistics for elections and as I said, the template for its disbursement came directly from the headquarters of the party and that was what everyone followed. Any claim to the contrary is false,” he added.

Wambai said it was wrong to misinterpret his comments (earlier published on an online news platform) about the funds sent to the states to mean that money was given to a particular governorship candidate for campaign.

“It was for logistics and the fund was used judiciously as directed by the party. People should disregard the false information being bandied around. Specifically, the statement credited to the former APC chairman in Kwara State Hon. Bashir Bolarinwa that the then candidate received N1bn for campaign is false. As the leader of the party in north central, I can say there was nothing like that,” he said.

Your Excellency, with your excellent leadership roles for the party, we are witnessing high-powered defections including serving governors from the PDP to our great party. It is also interesting that the fortune of the party in the last year has greatly improved across the country, and especially in the South-East, which has been the stronghold of the opposition.”

The CECPC National Chairman reported to the President while presenting the Progress Report.

On the hugely successful and record setting membership registration, revalidation and register update exercise, the CECPC National Chairman told the President that as part of measures to reposition the party, the Committee found it expedient to establish the numerical strength of the party as provided by the party constitution and help strengthen the partys planning processes for congresses, conventions and general elections.

On the Constitution Amendment/Review Committee constituted to look into ambiguities and loopholes to check unnecessary litigations and promote internal democracy, the CECPC National Chairman told the President that the Committee has concluded its assignment after conducting public hearings in all the six geo-political zones with 500 memoranda received from party members. He stated that plans are being made to submit the new constitution to the President before presentation to the convention for ratification.

To cement the new cohesion in the party, the National Chairman reported to the President that the CECPC administration convened the first ever Conference for Youth.

On the forthcoming Anambra Governorship Election, the CECPC National Chairman notified the President that 14 aspirants indicated interest to contest the election through purchase of expression of interest and nomination forms, all of whom had been cleared by the Screening Committee as eligible to contest.

A Primary Election Committee has also been constituted to conduct the primary election on 26th June 2021. As a measure to provide a backup to the primary election committee, a ‘Reinforcement Committee has been constituted to ensure that the election is conducted freely, fairly, and transparently. The CECPC National Chairman stated.

Among other achievements in the CECPCs administration of the party, the National Chairman informed the President that the CECPC inherited liability of unpaid legal fees to the tune of N340million, but successfully negotiated and brought down the fees to N179 million which is now fully paid. Also, with respect to court cases bordering on CECPCs legitimacy and election-related matters, the National Chairman informed the President that the party secured a judgment affirming the legality of the CECPC.
Buhari House

.
“I also have the honour to inform you that in recognition of the untiring leadership role you have provided to our great party and the nation, and the democratic legacy you have put in place, the CECPC has approved to name the National Secretariat of the Party after you. The secretariat will henceforth be known as ‘BUHARI HOUSE,” Governor Buni disclosed.

The CECPC National Chairman informed the President that the Committee had been very cautious and meticulous in making arrangements to conduct credible, transparent, flawless and generally acceptable Congresses and Convention for the Party to produce a strong leadership that will enjoy the support, trust and confidence of all members.

At all times, we have enjoyed the confidence of Mr. President and enjoyed your leadership. In developing the timetable for the congresses and convention, the support to conduct a credible election cannot be overemphasized; this will also justify the successes recorded and the status of the new APC that we have all dreamt of. Your Excellency sir, once again, we appreciate the honour and confidence you and the NEC members have reposed in us and our ability to execute this very important assignment. Kwara APC wants registration extended for new members PDP, ACPN, Labour decampees seek registration

Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has appealed to the national headquarters of the party to extend registration exercise for thousands of new entrants into the party, saying such a step would afford them the opportunity to pursue their legitimate aspirations.

“You would recall that thousands of people from the opposition PDP, Labour Party, ACPN and others have recently joined our party in the state. We appeal that the registration exercise be extended by at least one week for them to be formally registered as party members. This will also enable those who could not register or revalidate their membership status before for whatever reasons to do so,” Alhaji Abdullahi Samari, APC caretaker committee chairman, said on Sunday.

“Our party, the APC, is gaining new entrants every day. This is because of the people-focused programmes of the government and the fact that the Governor has been a friend of the masses who reaches out to everyone in the larger interest of the state. We therefore urge the national secretariat of our party to extend the registration and of course revalidation exercise by one week.”

The statement said the appeal is in line with requests from new entrants into the Kwara APC, especially those from PDP, Labour Party and ACPN, who sought extension of the exercise to enable them register as bonafide stakeholders in the ruling party.

The statement meanwhile has urged party members in the state to await further information on the upcoming ward and state congresses.

Congress to hold in Kwara, says APC.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kwara State has debunked the false information on the forthcoming Congresses in the state, maintaining that the party congresses would hold in kwara state together with other states as scheduled, starting from next month.

The Kwara APC has described the rumour that kwara and three other states would not be having congresses untill the issue of membership registration is settled, as unfounded and mere sophistry.

The Caretaker Chairman of the APC in Kwara state, Alhaji Abdullahi Samari in a statement issued by the party said he has called the national secretariat to confirm the authenticity of the story and was told it was false and unfounded.

” The national secretariat has published guidelines for the ward, local and congresses and we charge all interested party members in Kwara state to be prepared for the forthcoming congresses and be guided accordingly,” the statement said.

APC building a stronger nation, Kwara Gov says as thousands join party We’re proud of you, Issa Aremu tells Gov

APC building a stronger nation, Kwara Gov says as thousands join party We’re proud of you, Issa Aremu tells Gov

Thousands of defectors from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party and other parties on Saturday formally pledged their allegiance to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq saying the development attests to the rising popularity of the party owing to the people-focused programmes and policies of his administration.

“Evidently, President Muhammadu Buhari, Governors, lawmakers and all officials elected on the platform of APC are clearly living up to the dreams of the founding fathers of our country. The economy is growing stronger amid unprecedented infrastructural development while increasing attention is being paid to security of lives and properties,” the Governor observed, amid cheers from the defectors, top APC chieftains, and government functionaries who included Deputy Governor Kayode Alabi, Speaker Danladi Yakubu-Salihu, Secretary to the State Government Prof Mamman Saba Jubril.

“Back home in Kwara State, we have remained committed to good governance. We are indeed proud of the impacts that our investments in human capital and infrastructural development are having on the people. Our social security programmes targeting the poor and vulnerable are glaring. Security of lives and properties remains a top priority while we are putting Kwara on a sound footing to lead the North once again.

“We have also prioritised youths and women empowerment and inclusion, widening employment opportunities and paying attention to all that can guarantee brightest future for our younger generation.

“This mass defection to APC today under our leadership is a tonic for all of us in trusted positions to continue to give our best for the collective good of our people. I urge you all to work together as a team and members of the same APC family in Kwara State.”

He said the party is made stronger with its policies that guarantee equal opportunity for all members, old or new, adding that no fewer than 400,000 new (APC) members have so far been registered in the state.

Former presidential candidate of the ACPN Gani Galadima, who spoke on behalf of the defectors from the central senatorial district, said his defection was hinged on the deliberate efforts of the Governor to reposition Kwara through massive infrastructural renewal, his care for the people, and his hands-on approach to governance, culminating in visible impacts on the populace.

“We are joining the party because we are convinced with the response of the governor to the issue of leadership. For the first time in Kwara State, we have a 24hr governor who works day and night,” he said.

“We have also seen infrastructural development in roads, education and women empowerment as well as rural integration.”

Comrade Issa Aremu, former governorship candidate of Labour Party and Director-General of the Michael Imoudu National Institute of Labour Studies, commended AbdulRazaq for his investment in education sector.

“I am pleased to identify with my governor for wonderful things he is doing in Kwara State. I am proud of your achievements. I went to my school, Ilorin Grammar School, and I saw wonderful job you have done there,” he added.

The chairman caretaker committee of the APC Abdullahi Samari said the party is pleased to receive people who cherished the developmental strides of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and joined the party from ward level across the state.

“When you go back to your respective communities, I urge you to work together. Accept all members. APC has no faction in Kwara. Elders and leaders of the party should go back home, embrace peace, and ensure that everyone works together for the success of the party across the state,” he added.

Speakers from the three senatorial districts took turns to highlight the various strides of the AbdulRazaq-led administration, commending him for his special attention to the poor and the vulnerable.

Defectors included all the immediate past council chairmen, including former ALGON chief Joshua Adekanye, Hon. Fatai Adeniyi Garba (Labaka), and Hon. Yinka Dallas, who hailed the Governor for his democratic dispositions and his commitment to developments with direct impacts on the people especially at the grassroots.

Breaking: Kwara APC Chair, Samari meets with his North Central colleagues in Abuja

Hon. Abdullahi Samari, Chairmen Caretaker Committee of All Progressives Congress (APC), Kwara State chapter just rose from the north central meeting of the party’s chairmen.

The meeting which held at the NAF base conference room had all chairmen from the north central region in attendance except Plateau and one other.

The meeting discussed party registration and sundry issues. Some state governors were also in attendance.

We’ve historic duty to back a performing Gov: Kwara APC Elders

We’ve historic duty to back a performing Gov: Kwara APC Elders

•Say AbdulRazaq has changed narratives in the state
•Insist Gov a victim of blackmail

Several elders and stakeholders in the Kwara State APC on Monday declared total support for the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq who they said has changed the narrative of the state across various sectors.

The elders told a news briefing in Ilorin, the state capital, that they have a historic duty to support AbdulRazaq on account of his impactful leadership of the state, his prudence, humility and large-hearted approaches to issues, including party politics.

The elders included Bar Kunle Sulyman; Sen. Sulyman Mankanjuola Ajadi; Sen. Ahmed Muhamad; Chief  J. B. Ayeni; Chief Wole Oke; Amb. Nurudeen Muhammed;
Alh. FOLORUNSHO AYINLA; Hon Ilias Ibrahim; Prince Sunday Fagbemi; Alh. Iliasu Alabi Iponrin; Princess A. R. Babalola; Pa  G.G. Jaiyeola; Hon. Agbaje Wahab Femi White; Chief Titus Ashaolu SAN; Chief M. T. Lawal; Chief J. A Shogo; Hon. Yahyah Yinusa; Brgdr. Gen B. I. Agbabs; Engr. B. O. Oyeyemi; Chief  Teju Oguntoye; Hon. Al-Hassan Yahyah Bagudu; Dr. Sheu Ibrahim; Salman Jawondo Esq; Hon A.S. Katibi;Alh. Mustapha Kobe; Sen. Bisi Oyewo; and Hon Faruk Saruk; among several others.

The elders said it was unfortunate that some persons within the party are teaming up with opposition elements to discredit the Governor in spite of his achievements which could be felt across the state within a short period of time.

“Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq remains a man of the people and he stands tall as a man of honour among the majority of our party members in the state, in spite of the unfair demarketing campaign launched against his administration by some of these party chieftains and their co-travelers in the opposition. This is not by chance,” according to a text of their address read by an elder statesman, Barrister Kunle Suleiman.

“Not only has the Governor demystified the office of Governor with his uncommon humility, simplicity, and prudence, he has redefined the story of our state in many positive ways. Whether in health, education, road, or water, the Governor has touched lives in many ways never seen before. He has strategically taken governance to the people such that there is no electoral Ward in the state that cannot point to one or two things that they have benefited in just 18 months of his administration.”

The elders attempted a sectoral analysis of what the Governor has achieved, particularly in the health sector, road, water, education and social protection of the vulnerable, commending him for particularly making sure that every part of the state is getting a feel of good governance.

“The interesting thing about him is that he sees governance as an affair that transcends party loyalty, and this explains why he has become so popular with the masses, to the chagrin of his traducers!

“Here is a Governor who has driven his own private car since day one of his administration to date. Here is a Governor who lives in his own house till date. Here is a Governor who is not taking salary. Here is a Governor who is willingly opening up his government for accountability through the phenomenal social audit process. Here is a Governor who just wants to deliver his campaign promises to the people, despite the biting economic realities. Here is a Governor who gives every part of the state a fair sense of belonging by always identifying with them in time of cultural celebration or mourning, and extending government’s patronage to every segment of the state. Today, Kwara is a model state on the continent in youths and women inclusion in government.

“The government has positively changed the narrative of staff welfare in the state civil service. There is now regular payment of salary. No more percentage payment and promotion of staff has resumed while arrears of salaries and allowances dating back to as far back as 2012 are now being paid. Besides, pensioners now enjoy regular payment of pensions. A sustainable arrangement for payment of gratuities on monthly basis has now been put in place. Following the aftermath of the ENDSARS protest across the nation which led to widespread looting of private businesses, Kwara State has stood out in offering supports for these businesses in a transparent manner.

“Why then would anyone from his own party go against him? The only explanation is that such persons are not interested in development but in their own hidden agenda which is at variance with the Otoge mantra. We have kept quiet for long in the expectation that good reason will prevail. But silence is no longer golden and it is about time every patriot, within and outside our party, stood by this humble and hard working gentleman in order not to allow a few persons persons with dangerous sense of entitlement and greed to erode the historic gains of 2019.”

The elders also said the emergence of various amorphous groups within the party in support of the Governor was borne out of open enmity and anti-party conducts of the some party chieftains who do not hide their disdains for the Governor and government of their own party.

They added: “Unknown to many unsuspecting members of the public, the emergence of various groups that have declared support for the Governor was not without a justifiable background. It is to show that this performing Governor is not without patriots who felt that the only essence of Otoge was the service of the people. Other interests are secondary. For as long as the Governor does this, he has the full backing of the majority of party members, elders and the entire populace of Kwara State. Quite sadly, shortly after the inauguration of the Governor, some chieftains within the party started a campaign codenamed ‘jeunkosanwo’. This implied that the Governor was never going to have a second term, irrespective of his Sterling performance. They were ready to frustrate and distract the government just to realise their own selfish ambitions.

“Despite working against the Governor from day one of his administration, many of them felt it was their birthright to become the godfathers to the same Governor and handpick anyone for him. In the case of Akogun Oyedepo, he lobbied to be made the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in order to use same as a platform to clinch the prestigious rank of the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN). While this is not a crime, we feel anyone who wishes to be so honoured ought to show support for the Governor as a party person. Hon. BOB and other party chieftains never disguised their dislike for the Governor and his administration for reasons totally unconnected to development of the state. Contrary to decency and party rules, they go on radio to openly condemn the government of their own party.

“Had the Governor not endeared himself to the masses with his humility, simplicity and people-focus performance as can be seen in every part of the state, the insurrection by these persons were enough to bring down any government. Yet their anger was basically that the Governor was not giving them attention, which is not true. Several party chieftains and patriots in their own right therefore felt a need to stand with the Governor who is clearly being unfairly treated by those who ought to push aside personal gains and stand by him to rebuild the state for us and generations to come. This is why we have also come together to stand for the Governor! The people of Kwara State are totally in support of the Governor and his administration because he has made them the focus of governance.”
