Former Kwara PDP guber aspirant, Alikinla defects to APC with followers

A former gubernatorial aspirant in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, Barr. Saadudeen Abdullahi Alikinla, has announced his defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Alikinla who was an ally of Senator Bukola Saraki moved into the APC with thousands of his followers, promising that all his structures across the 16 Local Government Areas of the State will work to deliver Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

Alikinla made his defection official at a ward meeting of the APC in Jeunkunu Ward of Moro Local Government, saying he’s marvelled by the superlative performance and landmark achievements of Governor AbdulRazaq.

The new decampee was also a former commissioner of tertiary education under the administration of Governor Abdulfatai Ahmed. He was known as ‘Akobi Saraki’ due to his loyalty to the former Senate President. This defection is another depletion in the ranks of Saraki’s loyalists as many others have left him recently to pitch their tents with the incumbent Governor.

“Recall that I was a former governorship aspirant under the PDP. So, I have my structures across the 16 Local Government Areas of the State. All of these structures will work for Governor AbdulRazaq and we will deliver him,” Alikinla who works with the grassroots said.

He was received into APC by TIC chairman of Moro Local Government Mallam isiaka Ganiyu Alikinla who described him as a strong politician with heavy presence at the grassroots, adding his defection is a plus for the party. The TIC chairman was joined by the APC Chairman in Jeunkunu Ward and several other stakeholders.

Tinubu is the best for a greater Nigeria: Kwara Gov

Tens of thousands of Kwarans on Thursday came out in droves for the official flag off of the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu/Kashim Shettima presidential campaign in Ilorin, with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq saying the APC ticket is the most progressive path to a greater Nigeria.

The flag-off was led by the First Lady of Nigeria Mrs Aisha Buhari, joined by several first ladies from APC states, Deputy Governor of Kwara State Mr. Kayode Alabi; top government and party officials from Abuja and across Nigeria.

Also in attendance were the wives of Asiwaju Tinubu and Shetimma: Senator Oluremi and Nana.

Kwara’s Senators Lola Ashiru (South) and Sadiq Umar (North) were also there — joined by House of Representative member Raheem Olawuyi Ajuloopin; the APC Senatorial Candidate for Kwara Central and Turaki Ilorin Mallam Salihu Mustapha; and other APC candidates.

Speaker Yakubu Danladi Salihu led the lawmakers from the state, along with cabinet members and other government officials.

AbdulRazaq said the choice of Kwara for the campaign flag off was unique and deserving, given its pole position in gender parity and women and youths empowerment.

“I welcome all of you the great Amazons of our party to Kwara State. I express our profound appreciation for the choice of the State of Harmony to flag off the APC Women Presidential Campaign for our candidates His Excellencies Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Alhaji Kashim Shettima,” the Governor said.

“Your Excellencies, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, our support for Asiwaju Tinubu is not because he is perfect. Our support for Asiwaju is because of his provable excellent track record as a people’s person who is able to consolidate on the gains of the present, drive inclusive growth, and lead our country to become more prosperous.

“Asiwaju has the experience. He has the temperament. And he has the right network to make our country more united and stronger. By their antecedents, it is clear that the Asiwaju Tinubu/Shettima presidential ticket is the most experienced and the most progressive combination available on the ballot in 2023.

“As advocates of gender parity, we will work with Asiwaju to ensure that the rights and privileges of the Nigerian women are fully protected.

“As the frontline state for gender inclusion and empowerment in Nigeria, I assure you of our commitment to making sure that women always get enough seats at the table where issues of public importance are decided.

“On this note, I call on the Nigerian people, especially our women, to support the APC in the coming elections for sustainable development and steady victory against all forces of evil.”

The First Lady, for her part, said the campaign messaging of APC will be devoid of hate or anything that may affect the unity of Nigeria.

She added: “We are here today to continue what I have started for the Nigerian women and youth during electioneering campaign. The women and youth presidential campaign committee has become a movement and proven to be the game changer leading to door-to-door and victory for the APC in 2015. In 2019, the same feat was repeated.

“Today, having our candidate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kashim Shettima as Vice Presidential candidate, the history is set to repeat itself. We are here en masse, women and youths, ready to come up to seek your votes from men to men, women to women, house to house, door to door.

“In 2019, the feat was achieved because women used their numbers to prove their strengths, commitment and choice of the APC. The same feat will be recorded in 2023 by the Grace of God.

“APC is making progress in the field of women empowerment, and under APC, the future of women is assured. As women, we will vote for our party because the party has achieved a lot in the areas of health, education empowerment and road construction such as the second Niger Bridge.

“The APC is built on trust, values and understanding, respect and accommodation. Our campaign is devoid of hate speech unlike those hate mongers who do not wish Nigeria well.

“Our campaign is full of soft speeches, no hate speeches, no character assassination, except commitment, mobilising and solidifying our unity.

“As a woman, mother, grandmother, I advise Nigerian APC women to carry on the campaign with sense of responsibility and commitment and unity for the victory of the party.”

Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her part, said the choice of Kwara for the launch of this campaign was rightly chosen by “our lovely mother and grand patron of the Women campaign council for Tinubu/Shettima Presidency. This is because Kwara State is a land of peace and harmony. My sister (Nana Shettima) and I assure you that you can count on us as partners in progress.

“Coming to Kwara State further gives me the assurance of a nation that is more unified, productive and peaceful all across our borders during Tinubu/Shettima administration. We, as the wives, are assuring you of continuous support. We will stand by our husbands to bring succour to the less privileged and the unemployed youths by encouraging entrepreneurial skills and do all within our power to ensure that we all live in harmony despite our ethnic and religious diversities.”

Speaking in the same breath, Kwara First Lady Ambassador Olufolake AbdulRazaq pledged her total commitment to lead Campaign among women round the nooks and crannies of the State to mobilize votes for the presidential candidate and all APC candidates.

She thanked Mrs. Aisha Buhari and the party for appointing her the North Central Coordinator for APC Women Presidential Campaign.

She promised to do her best to deliver on the national assignment.

National Women Leader of the APC, Dr. Beta Edu, said the party is targeting at least 40 million votes for Tinubu/ Shettima’s presidency in 2023, and enjoined all women in the State and across Nigeria to strive to achieve that.

AbdulRazaq restates commitment to security as Kwara donates new patrol vehicles

Kwara State Government on Monday donated 10 new patrol vehicles to the ‘Operation Harmony Tactical Team’, a gesture Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq said will help to strengthen security of lives and properties and build confidence within the business community.

The tactical team is a combined security outfit under the State Command of the Nigeria Police.

It is the third time the administration is giving out operational vehicles to the police to beef up security in the state. It has similarly donated patrol vehicles to other security agencies at various times.

At a brief ceremony handing over the vehicles to State Police Commissioner Paul Odama in Ilorin, the Governor said: “We are supporting our security agencies by giving them additional equipment to make their jobs easier. As you have seen, the security issue in the country is getting better daily. We want to keep it that way.”

AbdulRazaq commended the Police and other security agencies in the State for their gallantry in making Kwara one of the safest states in Nigeria.

“Kwara State is arguably the safest State in Nigeria. We are doing our best to keep it that way by ensuring that the citizens remain safe. And part of what we need to do is to keep supporting our security agencies. I thank them for the work they have been doing to allow us to sleep with our eyes closed at night. We are truly grateful for the efforts,” he said.

Odama, for his part, appreciated the Governor for always responding to their operational needs and promised not to let the State government and the people of the State down on their duties.

“I am really thankful to Your Excellency the Governor of Kwara State for giving us these vehicles. As you rightly said, Kwara State is one of the most peaceful states in the country presently. And we need to keep that position and even improve on it,” he said.

He also thanked the Inspector General of Police Alkali Baba Usman for playing an important role in this respect, and for making sure that every part of the country is properly policed.

The event was attended by some cabinet members and party executives, including the Secretary to the State Government Prof. Mamman Saba Jubril; Special Adviser on Security General Tunde Bello (rtd); Senior Special Assistant on Security Aliyu Muyideen; and State APC Chairman Sunday Fagbemi.

PDP, Saraki should bury their heads in shame,’ netizens fume over fake news against Kwara governor

Thousands of Nigerians have taken to social media to knock the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara and the former senate president Senator Bukola Saraki over the false allegations levelled against Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara state.

Members of the opposition party, PDP, had taken to various social media outlets on Saturday to allege that the ruling party All Progressives Congress (APC) denied them access to use the metropolitan square to host their presidential rally in the state.

But reacting to the allegations on Sunday via a series of tweets, Special Assistant to the Governor on Communication, Ibraheem Abdullateef, dismissed the claims as false news against the governor to score cheap political points.

“PDP was not denied venue in Kwara. They initially requested to use the facility on Nov 14, which was granted. Meanwhile @OfficialAPCNg had similarly sought to use it on Nov 17, 21, & 22. When PDP changed its date to 17, it could not be granted again because of a pre-booked event,” Abdullateef tweeted attaching the letter of approval earlier given to the PDP.

“This administration is not given to vindictiveness. Members of the PDP are advised to stop spreading false news about the governor and @followKWSG to score cheap political points. Kwara is not an inheritance or private property of anyone,” he concluded.

Following the clarifications, many people described as shameful and irresponsible the conduct of the PDP and followers of Saraki in spreading false allegations and misleading information against the Kwara governor.

Abdulrazaq has shown possibilities of positive devt in Kwara: Chief Of Staff Prof. Gambari

Chief of Staff to the President Prof. Ibrahim Gambari at the weekend said Kwara is recording impressive economic development under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

Speaking at the launch of the UNDP Econonic Revitalisation Programme in Ilorin on Friday, the retired diplomat said the Governor’s programmes and ongoing projects, including the garment factory, represent a positive economic development in the State.

Gambari’s attendance of the UNDP programme was preceded by his brief tour of the State garment factory and the office of the Kwara State Social Investment Programme where he also interacted with some applicants of the Kwapreneur 3.0 — an initiative to fund businesses of young people with non-interest loan and or grants.

“Let me thank His Excellency the Governor for the gracious hospitality he accorded us since we came. Before we came here, we have been taken round to see some of the programmes of economic development and empowerment for which the administration has become very known, including the Garment industry which will be an engine of growth and creator of wealth which will further reduce the poverty level in this state,” Gambari said.

“We have also seen first-hand some of these young entrepreneurs who were doing interview – some were even interviewed in our presence – who will benefit from the economic development programme (Kwapreneur 3.0) of his administration.

“He has demonstrated the possibilities of change or progress in our state.”

He commended the State’s social investment programmes which had been modelled after President Muhammadu Buhari’s famous safety net programmes.

Gambari also praised AbdulRazaq for partnering with the United Nations Development Programme on the cash transfer initiative that he said can change the lives and destinies of the beneficiaries if properly used.

UNDP flags-off economic revitalisation programme for over 3000 Kwarans

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Friday said there are enough evidences to prove that Cash Transfer programme for the vulnerable people is a workable solution to extreme poverty, commending the Federal Government for leading the way.

The Governor spoke in Ilorin, the state capital, at the launch of the United Nations Development Programme Socio-Economic Revitalisation Support Programme, which targets over 3,000 vulnerable families and small businesses for unconditional cash transfer.

“Cash transfer to vulnerable people has proven to be a workable solution to extreme poverty. There are documented evidences of how putting money directly in the hands of the needy has helped to refocus the global efforts to empower people. It gives people the power to dictate the direction of their own future,” he said.

“In Kwara State, we have long domiciled the cash transfer policy of President Muhammadu Buhari. It works for us as it has worked for the Federal Government. Through our social investment programmes and some other interventions, we have reduced the poverty rate from 30.2% to 20.4%. We have also helped young people to grow their businesses.

“Like our own Owo Arugbo, I am aware that the UNDP’s cash transfer has no strings attached. Regardless, I urge beneficiaries to use the money judiciously. This is the way to encourage organizations like the UNDP and the government to do more in the hope that the objective of spreading wealth will not be defeated.”

AbdulRazaq commended the federal government and UNDP for making impactful contributions to strengthen small scale businesses and bring comfort to the masses after the pandemic.

“The Economic Revitalisation Programme (unconditional cash transfer) that we are launching today is another evidence of how much the UNDP cares about inclusion of everyone for sustainable growth,” the Governor added.

“We commend you for your roles in making our world a better place. This initiative is a life-saver for vulnerable families and small businesses who were badly hit following the COVID-19 pandemic.”

In attendance were the Chief of Staff to the President Prof Ibrahim Gambari; representative of

the Special Assistant to the President on SDGs Israel Echukwu; Resident representative of UNDP in Nigeria Mohamed Yahaya; Cabinet members; Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on SDGs Dr. Jemilat Bio; representative of Chairman YOLAS Consultancy Engr Lanre Sagaya, Alhaji Ibrahim Salman; Chairman LUBCON Nig. Ltd and top APC Chieftain Alhaji Jani Ibrahim; Professor Ibrahim Abdulganiyu Jawondo and Professor Hassan Saliu.

Royal fathers at the event included the representative of the Emir of Ilorin and Balogun Alanamu of Ilorin, Dr. Usman Abubakar Jos; Olusin of Ijara-Isin HRH Pharmacist Julius Ademola; representative of the Olofa of Offa, High Chief Isiaka Adebayo; Oloro of Oro-Ago HRH Oba Johnson Dada; other traditional rulers.

The Governor had earlier led the Chief of Staff, UNDP officials and other dignitaries on an inspection of the office of the State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP), where they saw applicants of Kwapreneur 3.0 speak to their pitches. The delegation had also visited the garment factory — an investment that is billed to employ thousands of people.

Prof. Gambari, for his part, praised AbdulRazaq’s efforts in bringing economic development to the people of Kwara State as demonstrated by his timely collaboration between the Kwara State Government and the UNDP on a cash transfer economic empowerment project that he noted will impact lives and change destinies.

“It is instructive to affirm that this collaborative intervention between the Kwara State Government and the UNDP is timely as it portends great opportunities of positively turning around the fate of the beneficiaries, their respective communities and the nation at large. We must therefore as a people join Mr. President in applauding the Kwara State Government and UNDP for this worthy and significant project,” according to the Chief of Staff.

“The choice of Kwara State for this programme is no doubt very strategic, considering the antecedent and current ranking of the state in the productivity quotient of the nation. Kwara State has been a very productive and economically viable state and has always contributed substantially to the GDP of the nation.

“This assertion is evident in the fact that the northern part of the state from time immemorial has always been one of the most valuable agricultural belts and food baskets of the nation, contributing between 8th and 18th percentage in the production of agricultural commodities, while the southern part of the state has also been reputed for massive cultivation of cash crops as well as trading in essential goods and materials.”

He appealed to the beneficiaries of the programme to attach to all components of the programme the focus and attention required for maximum life-changing results, urging them to see it as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to turn the corner in the race to attain personal sustainable economic empowerment.

UNDP representative in Nigeria, Mohamed Yahaya, said the programme seeks to strengthen the capacities of communities affected by the impact of the pandemic, with at least 3,000 kwara women and youths expected to benefit.

He said the UNDP has so far implemented the programme across 10 states in the Country, with over 80,000 beneficiaries supported since 2020 to date, calling it a positive step to herald several other steps to the economic recovery in the Country.

Mohamed commended the state government for rising to the occasion at all times and for implementing several initiatives to support the people of the State.

Special Assistant to the President on SDGs Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, who was represented by Mr. Israel Echukwu, said all hands must be on deck for the country to achieve greatly on the implementation of SDG goals, and hailed the Governor for doing so well in this respect.

In her address of welcome, Bio, said the Covid19 has imposed untold hardship on many vulnerable women and youth across the State, and affirmed that the State government has been doing a lot to resuscitate businesses and support economic growth of the State.

The UNDP unconditional cash transfer programme targets 3,082 persons across two broad categories: startups who are to get 100,000 each and informal businesses who will get N50,000 each, with emphasis placed on women, youths, and vulnerable households.

Parents Confident In Kwara Public Schools As Enrolment Increases by 43%

The enrolment of pupils in public schools of Kwara State has increased by 43% in 2022, according to a data released by the education authorities in the state.

The rapid increase has been attributed to Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s major investments in basic education and reform policies in the last three years, especially the KwaraLEARN programme.

KwaraLEARN which currently operates in four local government areas in its Phase 1 has revved up the enrolment of pupils in public schools.

The local government areas include Ilorin West, Ilorin East, Baruten and Offa.

Parents and guardians in the state now have confidence in public schools, as they withdraw their children from private schools to public schools in Kwara.

Governor AbdulRazaq had in 2019 when he assumed office paid the outstanding debt of the diverted UBEC funds and the years-long backlogs running into billions of naira, qualifying the state to get educational grant from the federal agency.

Under the Governor, more than 600 public schools have been renovated and given facelift out of the over 2000 estimated to be in decrepit conditions across the state.

The Governor has also prioritised the payment of teachers’ salary and their welfare packages, unlike in the past where they were owed several years of salary. This move has ensured motivation and made the job attractive.

KwaraLEARN is an initiative of Governor AbdulRazaq to make the state’s public education compete favourably with global standard.

KwaraLEARN has improved the quality of teaching instructions with the use of technology and automated solutions in government-owned schools.

Under the programme, teachers have been given gadgets to aid their teaching. The KwaraLEARN initiative has contributed to the enrolment of pupils in Kwara public schools.

Meanwhile, the government is building digital literacy centres across different schools of the state, while also investing heavily in revitalising the laboratory system by equipping school labs with quality equipment.

Governor AbdulRazaq also directed a teachers’ recruitment process that was thorough and devoid of partisan sentiments.

This has thrown up best hands to impart the pupils in public schools, as they were also trained and retrained.

The investments of Governor AbdulRazaq is yielding fruits as parents have started developing confidence in the public school system which they have long run away from.

Various stakeholders, including in the executive and legislative arms of the federal government, have at different times lauded Governor AbdulRazaq’s investments in public education, which they described as a breakaway from the past which left the sector in ruins.

Kwara PDP loses more key members as scores defect to APC in Ekiti

The People’s Democratic Party, PDP in Kwara State has lost more of their key party members to the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC at Obbo-Aiyegunle in Ekiti Local Government Area of the State.

The defection of key PDP members to the APC took place during the Rotational Local Government Meeting of the Ekiti Local Government All Progressive Congress, APC, held at Obbo-Aiyegunle, in the Local Government Area.

Leading scorers of defectors to the APC during the party’s rotational meeting held on Wednesday are Ojo Samuel Shola, who was the Special Assistant to the former Ekiti Local Government Council Chairman, Honourable Akintoba Fatigun.

Other key members of the PDP who defected are Adelodun Banjo; Bamidele Sunday (aka Omoga); Oluwole Sunday; Ojo Ajibola; Ayo Aina; Esan Friday; Ogunleye Abiodun; Falodun Sunday, among other defectors.

While commenting on the reason for their decision to defect from the PDP to the APC, Bamidele Sunday and Adelodun Banjo who spoke on behalf of other defectors said the sincerity of purpose, commitment to good governance and Infrastructural projects which has been executed by Governor AbdulRasaq AbdulRahman of Kwara’ State across all the wards in Ekiti Local Government Area, most especially, in the two wards of the community, were the major reason why they are joining the ruling party.

He stated that they have alll been life-long followers of Bukola Saraki for over 20-years, but their community as a whole could not boast of a project executed all through the 16-years of Saraki’s leadership of the State.

In his own comment, Bamidele Sunday, popularly known as.’Omoga’, stated that the PDP administration which held sway in the state for over two decades had consistently decieved the people of Obbo-Aiyegunle with the promise of constructing their major road which links the community to other part of Kwara’ State, but the past administration under Bukola Saraki leadership never for once fulfill any one of the promises.

“The best we ever saw were two occasions, both nearing general elections, when they would decieve us to vote for them, by bringing road construction machinery to the road, only to remove the machines immediately elections were over.

“However, governor AbdulRasaq AbdulRahman has successfully started the construction of the road without any major drama and it is now at 95% completion rate, despite the fact that the present governor had never made any of such bogus promises to us.

Mr. Bamidele added that, the whole of Obbo-Aiyegunle community, resident at home and abroad, owe Governor AbdulRasaq AbdulRahman a big gratitude, which will come in a block vote for all the candidates of the All Progressive Congress, APC, during the forthcoming general elections, most especially, the governorship and the House of Assembly election.”

He added that the residents of the community are so eager to deliver their votes for the governor and all other candidates of his party.

While recieving the defectors into the APC, the local government chairman of the party, Honourable Awelewa Olawale promised an immediate integration of the new defectors.into the campaign activities of the party in the local government, based on the political vibrancy of the defectors, being youthful-grassroot mobilisers. He therefore assured them of equal recognition and treatment with the old party’s members.

The meeting attracted major stakeholders of the All Progressive Congress, APC in Ekiti Local Government Area, including the member representing Ekiti Constituency in the Kwara’ State House of Assembly, Honourable Abolarin Ganiyu Gabriel, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Raji Rasaq, Chief J.B. Ayeni, Asiwaju Ayobola Samuel, Elder Akin Bamidele, Chief S.K. Olosunde, among other party leaders and thousands of enthusiastic party members.

ANAP/ NOI Polls Result, a confirmation of Gov. AbdulRazaq as Preferred Kwara Choice for 2023 Governorship Election

The All Progressive Congress has noted the belly-aching of the opposition parties following the results of an independent and credible polls conducted by Atedo N.A Peterside ( ANAP) Foundation and Ngozi Okonjo Iweala (NOI) Polls.

While we welcome the result of the polls as a confirmation of the hard work of our exemplary Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in the last three and half years, we note that the results is a way too short of the projections of our pollsters who have predicted a crushing defeat of the opposition parties who have been holding nuctunal meetings on a possible gang-up against the Governor.

We have no iota of doubt that 99 percent of those labelled as undecided voters are those who will vote for Governor AbdulRazaq in the 2023 Governorship Election.

We sympathize with the opposition parties especially the Peoples Democratic Party who have been dazed with the outcome of the polls. This is a party whose leaders should bury their heads in shame because the only legacy they have in the state is that of pilferage ,outright stealing of public funds and impunity .

The PDP , lately ,has been working very hard to deceive the public that it has turned a new leaf following its removal from power in 2019 but we know that a leopard will never change its skin. PDP leaders are certified kleptomaniac of public funds.

We are also amused by the PDP’s perpetual headache about commissioning of projects by our administration when the projects are visible and acknowledged by the people themselves .

Unlike the PDP propaganda of commisioning and publicizing fake and non- existing projects on radio, we are excited and impressed by the compliments and feedback by stakeholders and people of Kwara and their common consensus of commendation to Governor AbdulRazaq on the projects in the 16 local governments and 193 wards in the state.

The PDP has also been spreading falsehood about the loan obtained by the administration. We challenge the PDP to explain how the state is indebted to the tune of N51 Billion.

It is ridiculous for the.PDP to demand that the whole of 27.5 Billion Naira bond obtained for building of infrastructure be paid in advance to contractors handling various projects in the State. The AbdulRazaq administration will not toe the PDP path of dishonour which was its trademark when loans and counterpart funds were shared by leaders of the rejected party.

We observed that the PDP falshoods against the administration are being published on blogs and their Watsapp groups, we challenge the rejected PDP to publish the false graft claims against the Government in credible newspapers and electronic media and see whether they would not face criminal defamation and excruciating damages.

The difference between the AbdulRazaq administration and the inglorious PDP regime is like daylight and darkness. The people of Kwara can see the difference. They know that the PDP will only bring pain and misery. Never again! PDP and its leaders belong to the past.

Signed:

Tajudeen Folaranmi Aro
