Kwara govt, BOI excited as another SME, Dapo Teni Nig Enterprise, expands business

Kwara State Government on Monday expressed satisfaction that more businesses are springing up in the state owing to the business friendly policies and programmes it has created to support business community.

The government said the life wire of any economy is SME and promised to continue to support any initiative that provides jobs and assists local economy.

“This administration supports any initiative that provides jobs, because the life wire of any economy is SME, and when you see a new SME coming up, the government has a duty to rally round such,” Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Rafiu Ajakaye told reporters in Ilorin at the launch of Ella Supreme tissue paper – another brand of Dapo Teni Nigeria Enterprises that attests to Kwara’s good business climate.

Ajakaye, while commending the initiative of owner, Olayinka Oladapo Jogunola, noted that the expansion of the company will complements the government’s efforts at creating jobs for the youth.

“Certainly, a number of people will be hired through the business and for every individual that is hired the resources will trickle down, and that will continue to reduce the rate of unemployment, poverty and destitution that you may have in the society. So we are excited, as a government, to also have this company coming up, it is highly commendable. We will encourage more of such to spring up. They should rest assured that the government will continue to come up with policies and programmes that support the business community,” he added.

He said the government is doing its best to groom young enterprenuers by providing interest-free loans for businesses through Kwapreneur, adding that more resources will be made available to expand the beneficiaries of the scheme.

“So far, so good, you have seen what is happening. The fact that you are seeing new firms springing up everywhere attests to the fact that the state is conducive for businesses. Just recently, we saw a cashew processing company that came up and several others that came up in the recent months. If Kwara is not business friendly, they will not be setting up businesses here,” Ajakaye said.

“It shows that the policies of the administration and the body language of His Excellency, the Governor, are working for all of them. Everyone, right from the top of the bureaucracy down to the bottom, now understands the need to be more supportive of businesses. And that is what you are seeing playing out.”

State Manager for Bank of Industry (BoI), Mr Harrison Osauwagboe, said Dapo Teni Nigeria Enterprises remains a reference point for other young entrepreneurs to emulate.

Osauwagboe said the BOI provides platforms for genuine businesses to secure facilities without any back door or influence of any personality, adding that Dapo Teni Nigeria Enterprise has demonstrated that BOI works as a bank in the state.

“BOI is here for you on anything that will create value-addition and what we focus on generally in BOI is the financing of equipment and raw materials. In the case of Teni, we bought additional equipment and raw materials for him so that his products can compete in the market and with his commitment and achievements, the future is bright for him,” he said.

He appreciated the MD Dapo Teni Nigeria Enterprise for his business initiative and for doing the state proud.

Managing Director, Dapo Teni Nigeria Enterprises, Olayinka Oladapo Jogunola, for his part, said the company was launching the product to expand the business, satisfy customers and create employment opportunities for the youth.

He added: “We are doing a launch of our new product called: Ella Supreme tissue paper. It is a high-quality tissue paper, pure and neat, and sealed for proper protection. Within the time of our coming to market, the patronage has been so encouraging that we cannot meet the rate of demand. We thank God for this,” he said.

Oladapo, who said the company found it challenging at the beginning in gaining the customers’ trust, noted that after some time, things began to take shape, adding that a lot of people have also secured jobs with them.

He appreciated the state government for making the business environment conducive, and the BoI for providing funds for the project.

Also speaking, Elerin of Adanla Irese, Dr. David Oyepinola

Adedumoye, described Teni as a son with pragmatism and vision to be self-reliant, praising his initiative and wishing him success at all times.

He said what Dapo Teni has done will go a long way to creating more jobs and assist the local economy, applauding the state government and Bank of Industry for raising young enterprenuers through various supports.

“Dapo is like a son to me. We are from the same area, but from inception, I have adopted him as my son because of his initiative. When you see a youth that is pragmatic, a youth that has vision, a youth that is full of mission, what you need to do is to rally round him,” the monarch said.

Kwara Gov okays bus palliatives for students • Free transport begins June 14

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has approved the deployment of government buses to support movement of students and workers in public tertiary institutions within Ilorin, the capital city, and its environs.

The bus palliative for the students covering the metropolis is the second phase in the measures by the Kwara government to cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy removal.

The government had earlier reduced workdays for civil servants from five to three every week, while bureaucrats work out other measures for workers that are exempted from the policy.

“From Wednesday, June 14, some large buses will be deployed to transport students of public tertiary institutions within the metropolis, including those going to the Kwara State University campus at Malete. Further details will be released by the coordinating Ministries, Agencies and Departments (MDAs),” according to a Kwara State Government House’s statement on Sunday.

“The state government will continue to offer immediate support for the Kwara public as Nigeria permanently transitions to the post-fuel subsidy regime and different steps are taken to bring more ease to the people while growing the economy in a sustainable way.”

GOVERNORS RALLY SUPPORT FOR SUBSIDY REMOVAL, OTHER POLICIES OF PRESENT ADMINISTRATION

State Governors on Wednesday expressed strong support for President Bola Tinubu’s decision to end fuel subsidy payments in the country and other early policy initiatives of the administration.

The governors, who took turns to speak when the President hosted members of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), led by its chairman, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, at the State House, expressed happiness with the President’s subsidy-removal decision, all-inclusive leadership and statesmanship.

They congratulated President Tinubu for tackling the fuel subsidy behemoth, promising to work with him to ameliorate the short-term impact of the decision.

President Tinubu had earlier called on the governors to collaborate with the Federal Government in tackling the menace of poverty in the country, saying the level of impoverishment was unacceptable.

The President advised the political leaders to downplay their differences and jointly focus on alleviating the sufferings and pains of the people.

“We can see the effects of poverty on the faces of our people. Poverty is not hereditary, it is from the society. Our position is to eliminate poverty. Set aside partisan politics, we are here to deliberate about Nigeria and nation-building,’’ he said.

President Tinubu stated that the nation should be seen as one big family.

“We are a family occupying one house, and sleeping in different rooms. If we see it that way and push forward, we will get our people out of poverty. A determined mind is a fertile ground for delivering on results,’’ he added.

The President said good governance would safeguard the future of democracy.

“Present in this room is our diversity in culture and politics, but we are one nation. The unity and stability of the country rest upon us.

“We are in a democracy and we have to nurture the democracy. It is a hard-earned system and not easy to manage. If anyone thinks it is easy, look at other nations who are over a hundred years in democracy.

“We have managed ourselves very well to have a democracy. We have campaigned and arrived at our present destination. We must work for our people,’’ President Tinubu told the governors, while assuring them that he would maintain an open-door policy.

The President said he was prepared to share ideas, strengthen institutions, and create bottom-up frameworks that will improve the livelihood of Nigerians.

“What do we do in the face of crushing poverty? What do we do with our development goals? We took the bull by the horns by removing the elephant in the room, before the nation sinks.

“We need synergy to fight other vices like corruption. We are trying to get smugglers out of the way. How do we work together to galvanize the economy, and put resources in place. We must think and perform.

“After removing subsidy, there must be savings accruing to the Federation Account,’’ he noted.

President Tinubu said the education sector must be improved as part of efforts to reduce poverty and penury:

“How do we address the unacceptable level of poverty? How much are we investing in education, which is the only tool against poverty? I am ready to collaborate with you.’’

The President also drew attention to the security problems in some states, admonishing the governors that all efforts should be put in place to tackle the security situation, without thinking it’s only for those facing it.

The Chairman of the NGF and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRasaq, thanked the President for the invitation to deliberate on the challenges of poverty and security, promising that the governors would support the Federal Government in meeting the targets of human development.

“The NGF will follow the tradition of working constitutionally and harmoniously with you,’’ he said.

The meeting, which was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima and new Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, had 22 governors and two deputy governors from Edo and Niger States, in attendance.

The governors made suggestions highlighting the plight of citizens in their states, assuring the President of their support in proffering solutions through the National Economic Council.
